Salvador—the capital of the Bahia province—was the first capital of the country and, thus, for many centuries the political and scientific center of Brazil. You can make a meaningful excursion back in time in visiting this old town full of colorful houses that convey a unique atmosphere. Here, you will get the closest to history and will learn in detail about the Afro-Brazilian heritage. The people you’re going to meet are friendly and hospitable. Salvador is also famous with its old and well-preserved churches—a real remnant of the olden times. Unique and very famous is also the Bahian Church, with its exotic mix of European, local, and African influences, among which the latter dominates.
